CAMPIGLI. IL NOVECENTO ANTICO
An exhibition of the painter Massimo Campigli
Fondazione Magnani Rocca
Together with the publishing of the general catalogue of the artist (created by the Archivi Campigli) this exhibition focuses on one of the most significant Italian painters of the 20th century, present in the collections of the main museums around the world but not on the exhibition scene since the event that Germany dedicated to him in the year 2003.
Five sections: the beautiful portraits, with many faces of the cultural world, but also friends, famous nice ladies; the city of women, with works depicting his obsession for the feminine world; figures without identity in a playground, entertaining and working scenes; mute dialogues, couples spatially close but incapable of communicating, prisoners of their own mystery; idols, presented in the evolution from the idol figures taken from the '20s Carrà to the ones with a primitive inspiration of the '50s.
Particularly interesting is the combination, for the first time ever in this exhibition, of the four huge paintings that Campigli kept in his atelier.
