Open Farms

Like every year, Open Farms awaits you also with an autumn appointment on Sunday, October 15 with the Day of nutrition on farms.

 

 

This is an important date as it will be held in conjunction with the World Nutrition Day, organized by the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) and the 2017 theme is “Let’s change the future of migrations. Let’s invest in food safety and rural development”. In 150 countries, how to face the challenges of nutrition in light of the increase in population and climate change will be discussed.

 

There are 69 farms in Emilia-Romagna and Museums of Taste and rural ones that from 10am to 6pm will open their doors to everyone with learning labs and training sessions. There are many learning opportunities offered by the farms: farm visits, bring the countryside home, eating at a farm, nature and culture and what nature teaches us.

 

From Rimini to Piacenza you can finally spend a day on a farm to understand which changes agriculture is making to face future challenges.

 

Cultivating and farming in a sustainable way means taking on practices that make you produce less, using natural resources wisely. It means reducing food waste by improving harvests, storage, packaging, transportation and also institutions and laws.

 

This will be a good opportunity to reflect on the future of the planet and on nutrition, but also to spend some pleasant relaxing time in touch with nature, listening to the wise words of farmers. For small children it will be a day to get to know the countryside and pet farm animals. For everyone it will be an important chance to understand what each one of us can start doing immediately to save Mother Earth.
